Genuinos are “open source" microcontrollers and are identical to the more well-known Arduinos. The difference is only justified in the name. Following a dispute in the US, the Arduino makers have decided to <https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/GenuinoBrand>`__ introduce the new name Genuino in Europe. In terms of content, software and community support, the Genuino is completely identical to the Arduino.
There are numerous Genuino starter kits from different manufacturers, as well as an official kit from Arduino.cc. Generally, the Genuino is programmed from the PC and the microcontroller programs are transferred to the Genuino through the development environment. After that, the program will run without a PC. As a result, Genuino boards can be used very flexibly, e.g. for control tasks.
